The digital world provides us with a space in which we have great control over our actions and gives us the ability to craft our own reality. This luxury is not afforded to us in our dwindling, non-cyber lives. Our finesse of language often fails us at the most crucial times, or we know exactly what must be said, and only lack the confidence to verbalise it.

Some ideas come from a place beyond explanation. This CD cover and supplementary 7″ singles were inspired by dental photographs. The repetition of these fascinating images gives a sense of Half Japanese’s particular style of off-beat, wierdo pop.
The design communicates a sense of what Half Japanese and their music is about, despite there being no obvious reason for it.

The Sydney Festival is a world class artistic event, bringing local and international musicians, visual artists, performers and thinkers to Australian shores. For the branding of such a festival the emphasis was placed on this connection between Australia and the world, between artists and audience, and everything that comes with along it.

South Pointing Fish

The earliest reference to a specific magnetic direction finder device is recorded in a Song Dynasty book dated to 1040-44. There is a description of an iron “south-pointing fish” floating in a bowl of water, aligning itself to the south. The device is recommended as a means of orientation “in the obscurity of the night.”
